What Are Chain Types in Cryptocurrency?

Chain types are the different blockchain networks used to send and receive cryptocurrency. The same cryptocurrency (e.g., USDT) can be issued on multiple networks, and you need to specify which network to use when making a transfer.

Always make sure to select the same chain type on both the sending and receiving sides. If you send funds using different chain types, your assets may be lost.

For example, when depositing Tether (USDT) to FXON and selecting ETH (Ethereum) as the chain type, please also make sure to select USDT as the currency and Ethereum as the chain type on your sending exchange or personal wallet.

Types and Features of Chain Types

At FXON, deposits and withdrawals are supported for Bitcoin (BTC) and Tether (USDT).
For BTC transactions, the network is automatically set to the Bitcoin network on FXON, so you do not need to select a chain type on the FXON side.

Some exchanges and services allow you to send and receive BTC using other networks such as the Lightning Network or BNB Chain. Please note that when making deposits or withdrawals to FXON, you need to use the Bitcoin network on the exchange or service you are using.

On the other hand, FXON supports the following five chain types for USDT, and you will need to select the chain type when making a transfer.
EthereumIt is a highly reliable network, although it is slightly less efficient in terms of fees and transfer speed. It is also labeled as "ERC-20."
OptimismThis Ethereum-based network offers low fees and fast transfers. It is also labeled as "Optimism Mainnet" or "OP Mainnet."
ArbitrumLike Optimism, this Ethereum-based network offers low fees and fast transfers. It is also labeled as "Arbitrum One."
TronThis network is popular for USDT transfers due to its low costs and fast processing speeds. It is also labeled as "TRC-20" or "TRX."
SolanaThis network focuses on high processing capacity, enabling low-cost and fast transfers. It is also labeled as "SPL."

All of these are major networks, and typically, transfers take only a few minutes to complete, with fees generally ranging from a few cents to a few dollars.
Please note that the stated fees and transfer speeds are general estimates. Actual fees and processing times may vary depending on the exchange or wallet you use.

Key Points When Selecting a Chain Type

When selecting a chain type, please review the following points and choose the one that best fits your needs and the supported options.
  • Which chain types are supported by your platform
  • How much the transfer fees will be
If both the sending and receiving platforms support Ethereum and Tron, these two will be your options. When multiple options are available, users generally tend to choose the network with lower fees.

What Happens If You Choose the Wrong Chain Type?

If a transfer is made using different chain types on the sending and receiving sides, the following issues may occur.
  • The deposit may not be reflected
  • Funds may be lost and cannot be recovered
To avoid such risks, always make sure that the chain type is the same on both the sending and receiving platforms before making the transfer.

Key Points

If you're sending funds for the first time or are unsure about which chain type to choose, making a small test transfer is a helpful precaution. Although this may incur additional fees and take extra time, confirming the details before the main transfer can help you avoid the risk of significant losses.
